چکیده

A high correlation (r 0.85) normally exists between the concentration of albumin and of lgG in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF). The correlation is still better (r = 0.96) if the concentrations of the two proteins are also measured in plasma and the CSF/ plasma ratios compared for albumin and lgG. The scatter diagram for these ratios in persons without disease of the nervous system is most useful as a reference when differentiating between local lgG production in the subarachnoid space and an increase in CSF protein for other reasons. The analysis can be performed on less than 0.1 ml of CSF, in contrast to agarose-gel electrophoresis, for which 5-10 ml is necessary.

Application of fluoroimmunoassay to cerebrospinal fluid immunoglobulin G and albumin.

Special solid-phase fluoroimmunoasssay protocols were used to measure the amount of immunoglobulin G (IgG) and albumin in 1,511 samples of cerebrospinal fluid. The fluoroimmunoassay is an inhibition test conducted on the surface of a plastic probe, whose fluorescence is inversely related to the concentration of spinal fluid IgG or albumin. A microcomputer interfaced with the fluorometer calcula...

Interpretation of cerebrospinal fluid protein assays in various neurologic diseases.

Albumin and immunoglobulin G (IgG) were determined in cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) and serum, and the CSF/serum albumin Index (CSF X 10(3)/serum albumin concentration ratio) and IgG Index [(CSF/serum IgG)/(CSF/serum albumin)] were calculated. Data for these indices and oligoclonal banding are described in 23 cases of multiple sclerosis (MS), 19 of systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE), eight of sarco...

Cerebrospinal fluid analysis in human immunodeficiency virus infection.

Cerebrospinal fluid (CSF) analytes were evaluated in 59 human immunodeficiency virus (HIV+) individuals to assess neurological involvement. Glucose, total protein, cell counts, p24 antigen, CSF: serum albumin/IgG ratios, and oligoclonal bands were measured. Eighty percent of samples showed abnormalities in one or more analyte. In some patients samples, these abnormalities could mimic those of s...

Comparison of protein values in cerebrospinal fluid by nephelometry and radial immunodiffusion.

Various parameters of three radial immunodiffusion systems, a kinetic nephelometer and two laser nephelometers were compared in a measurement of IgG and albumin in cerebrospinal fluid. Greater precision for IgG and albumin determinations was found with two RID systems. Correlation coefficients between methods ranged from 0.71 to 0.94. The generally poor correlations of methods, combined with th...

Local IgG synthesis in three pediatric patients with Cuban epidemic neuropathy.

Three pediatric patients with Cuban epidemic neuropathy were studied. Cerebrospinal fluid and sera were simultaneously obtained. Albumin and IgG were quantified by immunodifusion. Albumin quotient and local synthesis of IgG were calculated by Reiber/Felgenhauer formula. A patient with optic neuritis had a dysfunction of the blood-cerebrospinal fluid barrier. All the group had local synthesis of...
